The local area - Los Velez

The Los Velez area is located in Almeria, the hottest province in Andalucia with an average of more than 3,100 hours of annual sunshine. In this area the climate is matched, or possibly outstripped, by the warmth of the local people. It is a largely agricultural area but both historically and culturally rich.

Property prices in this area are cheaper than coastal areas and outstanding bargains can still be found. Los Velez is made up of four main pueblos:

Velez Rubio: A small but thriving market town and the commercial and economic centre of the Los Velez area.

Velez Blanco: A picturesque hilltop village, boasting some of the best restaurants in the area.

Chirivel: An agricultural town with excellent access and reputed to have the highest per capita consumption of beer in all of Spain!

Maria: A mountain village set amidst stunning natural parkland and rich agricultural land.
